Brussels - The 19-country eurozone on Tuesday said its central bank started to inform millions of shops and small firms in the single currency area about the new 20-euro banknote which is due for circulation in late November.

“To prepare for the launch of the new 20-euro banknote on 25 November 2015, 2.8 million businesses will receive information leaflets and motion cards,” the European Central Bank (ECB) said in a statement.

Professional cash handlers in the euro area will be informed about “the design and security features” of the new banknote so that they can, in turn, inform their customers.

The bank also pointed out that banknotes can be easily checked manually, using the feel-look-tilt method.

“Extra copies of the leaflet and the motion card can be obtained from the respective national central bank.”

There are seven denominations of euro banknotes, including 5-euro, 10-euro, 20-euro, 50-euro, 100-euro, 200-euro and 500-euro, as legal tender in the euro area, showing architectural styles from different periods in Europe’s history.

The bank showed on the official website that the new series of the 20-euro banknotes will carry a completely new security feature - a transparent portrait window on the right of the note on the hologram strip.
