Johannesburg - South Africa's rand held its ground against the dollar early on Monday as peaceful local government elections last week lifted sentiment for local assets.
At 06h41 GMT, the rand was at 13.7000 per dollar, unchanged from its New York close on Friday.
Trade was expected to be thin on Monday ahead of the Women’s Day public holiday on Tuesday.
The local bourse was expected to open higher at 07h00 GMT, with the blue chip futures index up 0.34 percent..
The yield on 2026 benchmark government bond was down 2 basis points to 8.57 percent.
