Johannesburg - South Africa's rand steadied against the dollar early on Monday and traders said the currency could get support from investors seeking higher yields in emerging markets.
At 06h45 GMT, the rand was trading at 13.4700 per dollar, not far off its close of 13.4800 on Friday.
Investors seeking higher yields after downbeat US economic data tempered expectations of a near-term interest rate hike by the Federal Reserve.
Local retail sales figures are due on Wednesday.
The local bourse looked set to open higher at 07h00 GMT, with the blue chip futures index up 0.36 percent.
In fixed income, the yield on 2026 benchmark government bond was up 0.5 basis points to 8.435 percent.
