Cape Town - The Mitchells Plain Golf Club (MPGC) will be hosting its first celebrity golf day fund-raiser this coming Sunday, with former Proteas cricketers Vernon Philander, Herschelle Gibbs and JP Duminy, as well Stormers superstar, Scarra Ntubeni, in attendance.
MPGC co-chairperson Jehad Kasu said: “While there is no golf course in Mitchells Plain, we enjoy a strategic partnership with Rondebosch Golf Club that provides weekly group coaching sessions with their resident coaches, as well as the opportunity for our members to play the course at a nominal fee.”
Established in 2019 by Sergeant Richard Smith as a pathway for vulnerable, at-risk youth to escape the lure of social ills such as crime, gangsterism, violence and substance abuse, the MPGC has grown from less than 10 members three years ago, to nearly 50 members today.
The sold-out celebrity event is to take place on Sunday, May 29 at the picturesque Erinvale Golf Estate in Somerset West, and there will be a delayed broadcast of it on SABC Sport.
Good Hope FM is to broadcast live from the event on the day, with Garth B’s “Thank Garth It’s Sunday” on air from 12pm to 3pm and Chad Saaiman’s “Saaiman Says” from 3pm to 6pm.
The MPGC encourages spectators to join in the fun.
The golf club said all funds raised at this event would go towards helping the non-profit organisation to function sustainably and provide a beneficial youth golf development programme for the youth in the area.
“We are excited to have the selfless support of sports heroes such as JP Duminy, Herschelle Gibbs, Vernon Philander and Scarra Ntubeni whom we grew up idolising, helping our kids understand that they too can achieve big goals through hard work and perseverance,” said Kasu.
