Cape Town - The City of Cape Town is advising residents and motorists of lane closures at the intersection of Adderley and Riebeek streets in the city’s CBD.
According to the City, the closures are required to facilitate the installation of a sewer connection for the Cape Town station redevelopment.
With the work being undertaken by the developer, the connection will run from Adderley Street into Riebeek Street and connect to the existing sewer main.
The City said the work will be implemented in phases from today (Mon) until December 13, pending unforeseen delays.
Lane closures will be effected to accommodate the work. However, some work may take place at night and over weekends.
The project will entail the trenching in Riebeek Street and Adderley Street, including across the MyCiTi bus lanes, the installation of the sewer pipe, the construction of manholes, and the backfilling and reinstatement of the trenches.
MyCiTi buses will continue to operate in the area and be accommodated during the lane closures.
“The developer will implement and manage the traffic accommodation measures to mitigate the impact on traffic as far as possible during the construction period.
“As is the case with all roadworks, residents and businesses close to the construction area will be impacted, as will visitors. Road users are advised to please consider alternative routes to avoid unnecessary delays,” the City said.
