Cape Town - The murder trial of Corrine Jackson is only set to continue in 2025, nearly eight years after the death of her estranged girlfriend, Nadine Esterhuizen,18, whose head was almost severed off by her killer in Mitchell’s Plain.
Jackson, who is currently out on R5000 bail, is set to enter the dock again at the Mitchell’s Plain Regional Court on January 28, where her trial is set to resume.
The matter was postponed this month to the new date, which has been met with much disappointment by court watch officials.
The case will resume with a former State witness who is set to take the stand as Jackson’s defence now who wants to carry out cross- examination.
Linda Jones of the Mitchell’s Plain United Residents Association, the Court Watch Brief and the Community Policing Forum, said they were not happy with the latest postponement and called on authorities to assist in the case.
“I wish to express our dismay as this has caused much pain and trauma for the victims,” she said.
“The horrific way in which this human being (victim) was killed is beyond anything that the Mitchell’s Plain community has ever seen before.
“People were outraged and yet today, there is still no justice.
“We ask for the Minister of Justice to intervene.”
The State is set to prove Jackson attempted to behead her estranged girlfriend, Esterhuizen, and allegedly stabbed her over 20 times at a residence in Colorado Park, in September 2017.
Private attorney, Asghar Mia, came on record as Jackson’s new attorney in May 2024.
Esterhuizen’s mother, Vanessa Esterhuizen, previously stated she also wished to approach the Directorate of Public Prosecutions to express her frustrations.
In 2017, while the detective took the stand during Jackson’s first bail application, he said the attacker had left an open wound around the victim’s neck, and had attempted to cut head off.
Jackson claimed she acted in self-defence while taking the stand in her own defence at the time.
Jackson had been placed on suicide watch soon after her arrest.
Jackson is also facing a charge of contravening a protection order relating to an incident that allegedly took place at Strandfontein Pavilion prior to the murder.
Esterhuizen sustained a cracked skull and her cellphone was flung into the ocean during the beach incident.
A case was also opened against Jackson in 2022 by a female victim who claimed she allegedly assaulted her in Vredehoek.
She was arrested in 2023 for an incident that allegedly took place in Bo-Kaap, involving a male victim.
