Cape Town - Western Cape Education Department (WCED) said it’s all systems go for the National Senior Certificate exams, starting on October 23.
“There are 10 marking centres; 466 exam centres; and 101 exam papers to be written; 1463 invigilators have been appointed to oversee the exams, with 3381 markers grading papers,” said WCED
spokesperson Bronagh Hammond.
She said there would be 62470 candidates writing exams - 53395 full-time and 9075 part-time.
“We have created a special website to help them prepare for the exams and there is also a ‘Tips for Success’ section on the website to provide advice on preparing for the exams, planning study time and what to cover in each subject - which includes advice from those who excelled in last year’s exams - along with the exam timetable and information on bursaries and loans for studying after high school.”
Hammond said gang violence and protest action in some areas were some of the main educational challenges that matriculants of 2019 have faced.
“We are appealing to communities to support all our candidates, both in their studies and revision, as well as allowing for access to and from examination venues as protest action is always a concern.”
She said that the WCED conducted number of interventions throughout the year to assist pupils in preparing for their year-end exams.
