Durban – Crocworld Conservation Centre in Scottburgh, on the KwaZulu-Natal South coast, will celebrate the 122 birthday of Henry the Nile crocodile on December 16.

Henry’s birthday is just one of the fun summer holiday activities planned for Crocworld this festive season.

“With this being the first summer holiday without travel restrictions, we are looking forward to sharing our fantastic wildlife with new and returning visitors,” said Crocworld Conservation Centre manager James Wittstock.

He said Henry had come a long way since his birth in the Okavango Delta in Botswana in 1900.

He added: “The oldest known Nile crocodile in captivity worldwide, Henry has taken to his life of leisure, having retired to Crocworld Conservation Centre back in 1985.

“To celebrate a life well-lived, the centre throws Henry a birthday party every year – and this is no different.”

The Nile crocodile (Crocodylus niloticus) is native to freshwater habitats in Africa, where it is found in 26 countries. It is widely distributed throughout sub-Saharan Africa, occurring mostly in the central, eastern, and southern regions of the continent, and lives in different types of aquatic environments such as lakes, rivers, swamps, and marshlands
