Durban — Anyone with information which can help the investigation into the murder of a man who was found dead with a stab wound to his head in Pinetown has been urged to come forward.

On Monday at approximately 5.13am, Marshall Security Greater Westmead Association (GWA) tactical officers discovered a dead man at the corner of Gillitts and Henry Pennington roads in the Westmead area, Pinetown.

Marshall Security managing director Tyron Powell said: “Upon arrival, GWA officers confirmed that the individual was unresponsive, prompting immediate notification of Pinetown SAPS, Metro Police, and private ambulance services. Paramedics arrived and assessed the scene, determining that the male had suffered a fatal stab wound to the head and had already passed away prior to their arrival.”

Powell said Pinetown police have opened a murder case.

“Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the deceased during this difficult time,” Powell said.

“Anyone with information that may assist the investigation is encouraged to contact Pinetown SAPS or the Crime Stop hotline at 08600 10111.”

He added: “Marshall Security urges the community to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activity to local authorities or their security provider. Community awareness and swift action play a vital role in preventing crime and ensuring justice.”

KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo said police in Pinetown are investigating a case of murder following an incident in which the body of an unknown man was found dead with what appeared to be stab wounds at the corner of Shepstone and Gillitts roads on December 17, 2024.

Previous incidents:

Late last month, a 26-year-old man was found dead with gunshot wounds on a pathway in Inanda. At the time, Constable Ngcobo said police in Inanda are investigating a case of murder following an incident in which a 26-year-old man was allegedly found with gunshot wounds at Amaoti on November 30.

That same month, the body of an 18-year-old man was found with stab wounds on Old North Coast Road, in Durban. Police in Greenwood Park opened a murder case.

In October, a man believed to have been beaten to death was found on a pathway in Durban. Constable Ngcobo said Greenwood Park police are investigating a murder case following an incident in which a 39-year-old man was allegedly found on the side of the road at Kenville on October 3.
