Durban — Vuso Tega, the driver truck involved in Tuesday’s N3 crash, stood in the dock with one hand folded over the other in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court as he was read the charges against him.
He made a brief appearance on Wednesday afternoon and remained fixed in the same position throughout the short proceeding.

State prosecutor Nomcebo Xulu said she would be opposing bail in the matter.
She said the particulars of the accused were still to be verified before his bail application.
The defence and State in the case agreed on adjourning the bail application to Friday.

Tega’s lawyer, Samil Garbaran, indicated that his instructions were to apply for bail.
“The State has been given the details and address of the accused, but they want to go out and verify there. All other aspects pertaining to bail have been verified as well.”
In court, it emerged that Tega, a non-South African, had been in the country for in excess of 14 years.
Magistrate Wendolyn Robinson read Tega the charges levelled against him before adjourning the matter.
She told him that he was charged with two counts of culpable homicide where the State alleges that on the N3 in Mariannhill he wrongfully and negligently caused a collision in which two people died.
The State alleges that Tega “wrongfully and negligently” caused the deaths.
He faces alternative counts of reckless and negligent driving.
