South African actors Mila and Benjamin Fourie are embracing parenthood with a hearty dose of humour.
The couple, known for their chemistry both on-screen and off, welcomed their baby boy, Karoo, into the world on January 7 at Louis Leipoldt Mediclinic Hospital in Bellville, Cape Town.
Weighing in at a healthy 3.2kg, Karoo has already put his parents through the wringer.
In a light-hearted Instagram post, the Fouries gave their followers a peek into the chaos that comes with a newborn.
Known for their hilarious personalities, the couple compared their first week of parenthood to a sports game and, according to them, baby Karoo is winning by a landslide.
Holding baby bottles as makeshift microphones, Mila and Benjamin, who starred together in “Hotel” on KykNet, joked about their "defeat" in the first few days of parenting.
"I think the big thing is we felt that we were prepared; we did a lot of prepping - a lot of prep work," they said.
"Nine months, we showed up, the vision was there, the dream was there: but on game day, we got obliterated and currently, we are struggling to comprehend what just happened to us."
"Watching a lot of replays of the couple of nights we had, it’s not good," she said, clearly finding the humour in the situation.
Benjamin added: "It’s been rough - we’ve collapsed, we 100 percent collapsed.“
Despite the exhaustion, the couple are in high spirits.
"We’ve got each other, but we just have to step up, we just got to go back to the drawing board," Benjamin said, showing that even in the toughest times, teamwork makes the dream work.
In true sports commentary fashion, they ended with a nod to their newborn’s tenacity. "What a guy! ... he brought his A-game.“
The couple’s playful approach to parenthood has endeared them even more to their fans, who love the candid and humorous updates.
