Rappers Nadia Nakai and her long-time rapper friend, Tshego, have recently dropped the second episode of their “Nadia x Tshego” podcast.
The podcast offers frank conversations on topics that many people find uncomfortable to talk about.
In their debut episode, the rappers chopped it up about having friends with benefits and the boundaries that should be put in place.
This week, they unpacked “dating in the same circles”.
The pair, who live in Johannesburg agreed that the friendship circles in the province are very small, which sometimes leads to friends dating friends.
Airing his opinions, Tshego said that he would appreciate it if the person he was dating would be open and honest about who they’ve been with prior to him.
“I would expect that they have some level of vulnerability, don’t get into this relationship if you’re not willing to be vulnerable about the things that you’ve been through.
“I’m not saying that you must now discuss your deepest demons and trauma.
“Just a level of, we are both living in this space, please don’t make my life hard for me by keeping certain information away from me that someone else is going to come and tell me anyway. Now we are in a f***** up position that you could have avoided.”
Nakai, however, mentioned that she didn't think it was necessary to disclose her entire dating history to her partner immediately.
“If I know that you might bump into the guy somewhere or you do, and I see it happening, then I’ll be like ‘Babe, I did have something with this person’. I don’t think we should be sitting at home and discussing how many people there were.”
The two also discussed whether it was a good idea for couples to ask each other about their past sexual partners.
“It’s a question that I will never ask,” said Tshego.
He continued: “I never want to know, I don’t want to know. That number is going to turn me off. I don’t want you to ask me my number because I know it might turn you off.”
Nakai added: “Sometimes guys ask for that number and then they’ll say, ‘So who is it, who were you with?’
“So it’s actually not about numbers, they want to measure themselves up to the n***** I’ve dealt with before.”
