Disney+ has announced that “Alien: Earth”, the science fiction horror film based on the “Alien” franchise, will be released next year.
The highly anticipated original FX series from creator Noah Hawley is set to feature a star-studded cast.
It will be led by Sydney Chandler, who will be joined by Alex Lawther, Timothy Olyphant, Essie Davis, Samuel Blenkin, Babou Ceesay, David Rysdahl and Adrian Edmondson.
Adarsh Gourav, Jonathan Ajayi, Erana James, Lily Newmark, Diem Camille and Moe Bar-El will also feature.
While an exact release date has not been confirmed yet, the streamer said that “Alien: Earth”, will centre around a mysterious space vessel as it crash-lands on Earth.
“A young woman and a ragtag group of tactical soldiers make a fateful discovery that puts them face-to-face with the planet’s greatest threat in the sci-fi horror series “Alien: Earth”, they said in a statement.
They added that as members of the crash recovery crew search for survivors among the wreckage, they encounter mysterious predatory life forms more terrifying than they could have ever imagined.
“With this new threat unlocked, the search crew must fight for survival and what they choose to do with this discovery could change planet Earth as they know it.”
Meanwhile, there have been reports that another “Alien” series, the animated “Alien: Isolation”, is also in the pipeline.
“The Hollywood Reporter” also revealed that the series is a prequel to the events of 1979’s “Alien”.
Several movies form part of the franchise from the late 1970s to this year’s “Alien: Romulus”.
They all center on the original film series, which depicts warrant officer Ellen Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) and her battles with an extraterrestrial lifeforms, commonly referred to as the Alien and the prequel series following the exploits of the David 8 android (Michael Fassbender) and the aliens referred to as the "Engineers".
