Cape Town gears up to celebrate South Africa's 31st year of democracy this April with the return of the ComUnity Festival 2025.
The festival, which is set to take place at The Ostrich on Saturday, April 26, will feature an electrifying music experience headlined by the platinum-selling hip-hop icon Cassper Nyovest and Samas-winning producer and DJ Mörda, as well as up-and-coming artist Scotts Maphuma.
Festival-goers can look forward to a diverse musical mix that encapsulates everything from gqom and deep house to Afro-pop and alternative R&B.
“Looking forward to my first ever community performance! I’ve been aware of the significance of the event to our culture and now being part of it makes it special. I’m excited for the energy and an overall great time,” shared Nyovest.
Founded by Vincent Manzini and Loyiso Mdebuka, the festival artfully combines performance, fashion, food and social impact, making it a space where young South Africans can come together to reflect, create and assert their roles within the democratic narrative of the country.
It shines a spotlight on emerging artists, designers, and entrepreneurs from underserved communities who often go unnoticed.
"Our mission goes beyond entertainment. We’re creating a cultural playground where young people can freely express themselves, network and elevate each other.
"ComUnity isn’t just a festival, it’s a collective journey toward empowerment, creativity and the ongoing celebration of our nation’s democracy and diverse culture," said Manzini.
Meanwhile, fashion aficionados will be treated to a showcase from Mzansi’s emerging designers, featuring everything from bold streetwear to avant-garde couture.
“Our last ComUnity was an event that resonated with the young and free,” says co-founder Mdebuka.
“Through partnerships with brands that recognise culture as a vital component of our identities, we explore entrepreneurship and how young individuals can leverage opportunities in creative fields.”
Food lovers will also get the chance to indulge in vibrant street-inspired cuisine crafted by local culinary innovators.
