The Johannesburg music festival has announced the first round of artists for the week long festival, which will take place from the 3rd of April to the 8th April, which features a diverse group of talent.
More acts will be added to the massive line-up set to take over Johannesburg. The City’s iconic venues, which have become home to the most accomplished local performers, will provide the best entertainment experience for music revelers. The Orbit, Bassline, AND Club, Kitcheners, Great Dane, Fox Junction and Zone 6 are some of the venues that will host the Red Bull Music Festival.
“The best of Mzansi’s most memorable kwaito classics, 20 years of Reggae, an innovative, one-of-a-kind jazz session and the freshest retro sounds”, Red Bull explains.
The festival’s first phase of artists includes: rappers AKA, Sjava and Rouge, R&B singers Shekinah and Langa Mavuso, reggae masters Jahseed, DJ Radix and Admiral, as well as Da Capo and DJ Lag. XiTshonga rapper Shomadjozi, techno DJs Sean Munnik, Stiff Pap and Angel Ho will also be in appearance at the event.
Kwaito music genre will also be celebrated with performances by Oskido, Afrotainment music, kwaito legends Trompies, and tributes to music icons such as Brenda Fassie, and Lebo Mathosa.
The eight-day festival kicks off on Tuesday, 3 April, by paying homage some of the greats who have played a role in shaping the South African and the global music scenes.
Red Bull Music Festival Johannesburg is a global celebration of 20 years of the Red Bull Music Academy. The Academy is a world-traveling series of music workshops and festivals.
