Durban - Various charities and organisations have initiated outreach programmes to assist those most affected by the floods that have ravaged KwaZulu-Natal this week.

Among the donations needed are food, blankets, building materials, water, clothing and other necessities.

Here are some of the organisations you can help.

The Domino Foundation

  • Donate financially online via EFT, Zapper, Credit Card or PayPal;
  • Contact our Donor Relations Champions Tarin, Elaine or Navin;
  • Do a collection of dry foods (rice, oil, beans) and blankets in your home, school, offices, churches or sports clubs and call 031 563 9605 or email [email protected], and they will collect.

Hot meals, blankets, bottled water, warm clothes, sanitary pads and diapers were the initial requirements.

The South African Jewish Board of Deputies KwaZulu-Natal (SAJBD KZN)

The SAJBD KZN has set up a collection drive as well as funds to provide assistance to those in need of bottled water, non-perishable food, blankets, towels, baby diapers, brooms, mops, shovels, work gloves, rubber boots, buckets, toiletries (soap, shampoo, toothpaste etc.) and batteries.

The Robin Hood Foundation

Co-ordinator of the Robin Hood Foundation, a non-profit organisation in KwaZulu-Natal, Jackie Psannis, said there is a need for non-perishable items ( rice, sugar, beans and maize), clothing and household items.

Shoprite has redirected its #ActForChange Fund till point donation facility to support local organisations assisting with relief efforts. Customers can support the relief efforts by donating as little as R5 at till points in all Shoprite, Checkers and Usave stores nationwide.

It will donate essential food parcels containing rice, maize meal, cooking oil and other non-perishables and blankets to the Gift of the Givers Foundation and Ashraful Aid to distribute to families.

People wanting to assist family and friends can buy virtual vouchers and send directly to the recipient’s phone to buy groceries or other essentials.
