London - Drinking milk may improve short-term memory — in men.

New research which studied identical twins aged 20 to 74 suggested that men who ate the most dairy products had better short-term memory than those who consumed the least. There was no such link for women and it is not known why there were gender differences.

One possible explanation is that milk provides key nutrients — calcium and vitamin B12 — found to be lower in people with dementia.

The researchers from Osaka University Graduate School of Medicine in Japan also suggest that eating more dairy produce is associated with lower risk of developing type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure, both of which are risk factors for mental decline.
