Durban – Two people died on Monday afternoon after the truck they were travelling in rolled down an embankment, on Stockville Road in Mahogany Ridge near Pinetown.

Netcare 911 reported that the driver of a truck lost control, resulting in the truck rolling down an embankment, coming to rest upside down.

“When medics arrived on scene, they found the front cab completely crushed.

“Rescue staff were forced to use hydraulic tools to access the occupants,” said Netcare 911 spokesperson Shawn Herbst.

Herbst said, sadly upon closer inspection, both the driver and passenger, both adult males had sustained fatal injuries and were declared deceased on the scene.

“Circumstances leading up to the incident will be investigated by the relevant authorities.”

In a separate incident this morning, four people died on the N3 east bound before the Marianhill Toll Plaza, also near Pinetown in Durban when six cars and four trucks were involved in a collision.

In another truck accident that occurred Monday on the N3 at the Cliffdale Bridge in Peacevale, Durban West Region, a truck driver lost control on the downhill, slamming into the bridge and died.

“Once the body was removed from the mangled remains, a rope rescue system was set-up to bring the deceased up to the road side,” said Herbst.
