Durban – The Ugu District Municipality on the KwaZulu-Natal South Coast has alerted residents of disruptions in water supply, due to load shedding.

The municipality says Eskom’s implementation of stage 4 load shedding this week will continue to cripple water generation in the district’s major water treatment works plants.

“Our water systems are highly reliant on Eskom power supply to function effectively, and the recent blackouts increase the risk of constant water disruptions in most areas across the district.”

Municipality spokesperson France Zama says these disruptions affected the water pumping system and the ability to provide pressure to higher-lying areas, which also has an impact on filling the reservoirs adequately and results in a restricted supply of water.

“The municipality would like to warn residents to make necessary arrangements by ensuring that they store enough water to last them during the ongoing load shedding.

“We appeal to our consumers to bear with us during this period while we contend with the impact of widespread power blackouts,” Zama said.

He said residents should to visit the municipal website and social media pages for more information and updates.
