Durban - EThekwini Municipality said the city would begin repairs to the Western Aqueduct which may affect the water supply to several areas in the region from 10pm on Sunday until 10pm on Monday.
A statement on Saturday said the Western Aqueduct, which is situated in the vicinity of Inchanga, needed to undergo repairs and the city would need to drain the aqueduct for the work to be carried out.
The municipality said the Western Aqueduct downstream of Inchanga Station will be isolated during this process, which will begin on Sunday, August 14 at 10pm.
“Residents are requested to use water sparingly to avoid potential water shortages. This is because reservoirs in the affected areas will not be topped up until the work is completed on Monday, 15 August at 10pm,” said the municipality.
The city said the following areas may be affected, depending on water levels in affected reservoirs:
- Inner West Region: Hillcrest, Embo, Mshazi, KwaNqetho, Waterfall, KwaNyuswa, Crestholme, Foresthills, Molweni, Gillitts, Kloof, Winston Park, Wyebank, Kwadabeka, NewGermany, Dassenhoek, Mpola, Marrianridge, Mansenseni, Tshelimnyama, KwaNdengezi Coffee Farm.
- Outer West Region: Botha’s Hill, Assagay
- North Region: Ntuzuma
