Cape Town – With both the Mike Hopkins Motorcycles regional superbike series and the 600 Challenge done and dusted (and congratulations to Brandon Haupt and Warren Guantario respectively!) the final round of the season at Killarney on Saturday 12 November is going to be all about pride.
Nobody will be riding tactically for points, because none of the top riders has anything to lose; it will all be about who’s the fastest on the day.
And proving a point.
2016 Mike Hopkins Motorcycles regional superbike champion Brandon Haupt on the MX Clean ZX-10R will be out to prove that he can beat international SuperStock rider David McFadden in a straight fight, which he hasn’t, yet.
McFlash will be out to prove that the rather second-hand BMW S1000RR he bought, sight unseen, in Durban can be made to run reliably, which it hasn’t, yet.
Trevor Westman will be out to prove that that the 2016 Mad Mac’s ZX-10R can be made to go as quickly as the previous-generation model, which it hasn’t, yet.
Double former title-holder Hayden Jonas will be out to prove that he would have pulled off a 600 Challenge hat trick if the Fifty8 Racing ZX-6R hadn’t wrecked three engines in one season, while new champion Warren ‘Starfish’ Guantario will be out prove that he didn’t take the 600cc title by default.
Class B
ASAP World father and son team Karl and Jared Schultz, each on a Kawasaki ZX-6R, will be out to prove that Class B belongs to them, while Leroy Malan on the LM Racing ZX-10R and Klint Munton on the Sunscan ZX-10R will be out to prove that big bikes can also win Class B!
Big Harry Clifton (MSD Auto Services ZX-10R) will be trying to prove the same point in Clubmans, with help from very quick newbie Donald Rohmer on the Quickway Logistics CBR1000RR, while JP Friederich on the Calberg SV650, Paul Medell (Kawasaki ER650) and Chris ‘Green Goblin’ Williams (Trac-Mac ER650) will be out to show that the more nimble 650cc twins are still kings of the junior classes.
There will be a lot of pride at stake on 12 November; the racing will be fast and very furious.
