Sydney, Australia - Difficult though this may be to believe, Captain America is 75 years old. Conceived by Marvel Comics in 1941 to boost the United States' war effort, he is as enduring a symbol of conservative American jingoism as his DC Comics rival Superman.
To commemorate the occasion, Harley-Davidson Australia - with the enthusiastic support of Marvel's Stan Lee - has challenged 27 of its dealers across Australia and New Zealand to create a custom bike representing one of the Marvel characters - either a superhero or a villain!
Each bike is based on a standard Harley model, customised using parts from the 800-page official aftermarket catalogue, and with a unique character-based livery representing that character's primary trait.
The bikes will be on display at the Oz Comic-Con in Sydney on 10 and 11 September, and they form the basis of a competition open to customers in Australia, who are asked to vote for their favourite on a dedicated mini-site, and stand a chance of winning a free holiday - but not unfortunately, the bike of their choice.
