Johannesburg - Thousands of motorcycle fans are expected to descend on the Kyalami Grand Prix circuit for the third annual SA Bike Festival, powered by Discovery Channel, from Friday to Sunday.
The Auto Trader-sponsored event is the largest motorcycle festival in Southern Africa and visitors can expect a huge variety of the newest biking trends from the world’s top brands alongside live music, test rides, training courses, stunt shows, childrens’ activities, food trucks plus the best in lifestyle and merchandise.
The festival will also feature a round of the SuperGP Champions Trophy for 1000cc and 600cc bikes, with practice and qualifying sessions on Friday and Saturday, and racing on Sunday.
In 2017 the three-day festival attracted more than 20 000 riders, collectors, motoring enthusiasts and their families from all over the country.
Visitors will be able to test ride the latest motorcycles around the circuit at R100 to R160 per ride. For R100 a ride, they can also test ride adventure bikes on a 2km offroad course.
Custom bike contest
Another festival highlight will be the RocoMamas custom motorcycle contest, while children will be able to ride pocket bikes, play arcade games, and drive bumper cars.
Entry tickets are priced between R200 and R950 per adult depending on the package, R150 for teens aged 11 to 16 (pre-booked only), and free for children under 10. Bike parking is free, while cars pay R20 (pre-booked online) or R30 on the day.
The Sunday Charity Ride will take on a new route this year, gving the public the opportunity to ride five laps of the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit on their own motorcycles on Sunday.
Known as the Rambo Blanket Run, the ride starts at World of Yamaha at 19 Eastern Service road in Kelvin, Sandton at 8am. Bring a blanket or a R125 donation to participate in the mass ride.
On the opening day the organisers will host an industry stakeholder summit to debate openly and create dialogue around the core issues facing the motorcycle industry in South Africa.
