Munich, Germany - These are the first official images of the BMW M6 GT3, which will replace the Z4 GT3 at the end of the 2015 season.

Development work on the new car, based in the M6 Coupé, is already in progress at the BMW Motorsport workshop in Munich and the first tests are planned for the first quarter of 2015.

It's built around the same 4.4-litre Twinpower turbo V8 as the road car - but tuned way higher than the 412kW and 680Nm of the production engine - in a chassis that's being braced and flared roll-caged for the track, with a sequential gearbox, fully-adjustable suspension, racing ABS and race-spec electronics.

Orders will be taken during 2015 for delivery from the end of the year, allowing customers to compete in the 2016 BMW Sports Trophy with the new car.
