Tokyo - Toyota's recall woes continue with the recent announcement of another large global campaign involving 1.67 million vehicles.
One of the faults involves the brake pedals of 802 000 vehicles sold mostly in Japan and China and the other, which affects some local Lexus vehicles, poses a potential fire risk.
The latter problem involves the fuel delivery pipe and could increase the risk of a fire in the presence of an ignition source. However, Toyota said that it is not aware of any fires, crashes, injuries, or fatalities linked to the problems.
According to Toyota South Africa, 2972 local cars are involved, which includes IS 250, IS 250C, IS-F, GS 300, GS450h, LC450 and LS600h models that were built between 22 August 2007 and 23 June 2010.
Toyota has promised to contact the owners of affected vehicles and will invite them to bring their vehicles in for the necessary repairs.
The announcement comes about four months after Toyota recalled 2.27 million vehicles globally over a defect that could see airbags fail to deploy in a crash and that also posed a fire risk.
