Johannesburg - Volkswagen is attempting to bring some socialite sophistication into its Up and Beetle ranges with new special edition 'Club' versions.
In both cases, the package includes a number of exclusive exterior and interior design features that set them apart from regular models
CLUB UP
This little city slicker is based on the Move Up model and is thus powered by VW's normally aspirated 1-litre, three-cylinder petrol motor, rated at 55kW and 95Nm.
Setting it apart from its sibling on the outside is a set of 15-inch Ravenna alloy wheels, mirror housings painted in Reflex Silver and the obligatory 'Club' stickers.
Inside the edition has been spiced up with Tartan cloth seat trim, leather steering wheel with decorative stitching, Club-theme floor mats, some extra chrome garnishes and a dashboard painted in a unique colour - depending on which of the three exclusive exterior colours you choose. These are: Pure White, Blueberry and Dark Silver.
The Club Up is yours for R153 200.
BEETLE CLUB
If you want to join this Club, you get a version based on the 1.2-litre turbopetrol-powered TSI Design derivative, with 77kW and 175Nm on tap.
Setting this clubber apart is a set of 17-inch 'ravenna' alloys and mirror housings painted in black or red, depending on the exterior colour selected.
Cabin decorations include a dashboard painted in what VW calls 'Twist Wave Dark' (sorry, no pictures available) as well as Calypso orange decorative stitching on the steering wheel (which also has 'Club' lettering, Tartan seat trim, 'Club' scuff plates and Club-theme floor mats.
The 'Club' Beetle is priced at R294 800.
