Four people are expected to appear in the Motherwell Magistrate’s Court on Monday morning in connection with a shooting incident that left two people dead and two others seriously injured.

The shooting incident took place on Friday in NU12, Motherwell, just after 9pm.

Police said it is alleged balaclava-clad men stormed the house, entering through the kitchen door and opened fire on the four victims who were watching television.

Two people died and have been identified as Yandisa Mabuto, 47, and Thembekiza Manyashe, 40.

Another two victims - a man and a woman- are critical in hospital.

Eastern Cape police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Siphokazi Mawisa said made a breakthrough this week arresting a woman and three men.

The 27-year-old woman was arrested in the Motherwell area, while the three men aged between 29 and 32 were arrested in Zwide and Joe Slovo.

The four suspects are expected to appear in court facing charges of murder and attempted murder.

Police said the motive for the shootings were not yet known.

There have been a spate of shooting incidents in the Eastern Cape in recent weeks.

A total of 18 people were killed in Lusikisiki and six community patrollers were gunned down in Qumbu.

Police have arrested people in both incidents and the matter will return to court this week.
