Damelin, a higher education institution under the Educor group, has attained full registration status following a tumultuous year that resulted in its deregistration by the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) in 2024.

Educor institutions, City Varsity (Pty) Ltd, Damelin (Pty) Ltd, Icesa City Campus (Pty) Ltd, and Lyceum College (Pty) Ltd were deregistered after they failed to provide evidence of their financial stability to the DHET since 2020.

According to the department, the four institutions exhibited non-compliance with the stipulations set forth in the Higher Education Act and its accompanying regulations. They neglected to fulfil the registration requirement as mandated by Section 2b of the act and failed to adequately discharge their responsibilities as outlined in the regulations.

The chief operating officer of Educor, Michael Thurley, said during the difficult period of deregistration, the institution used the experience to reaffirm its dedication to its core values.

"Collaborating with the Public Investment Corporation (PIC) and various government departments, the college is positioning itself for sustainable growth and improved educational services. These alliances are pivotal in enhancing student outcomes, enriching the academic portfolio, and ensuring long-term success in the dynamic education sector," said Thurley.

“The support we've received from our staff, partners, and stakeholders has been invaluable, and we are incredibly grateful. While we acknowledge the challenges we've encountered, our dedication to progress remains steadfast, and we are determined to emerge stronger than ever," he added.

In addition, he said Damelin remains steadfast in its focus on delivering an education that adequately prepares its students for the demands of today’s fast-paced world.

"The achievement of full registration status reinforces the college's commitment to establishing a robust academic framework, paving the way for ongoing advancement and prosperity for both the institution and its learners.

"We are looking forward to the opportunities the future holds and are committed to supporting our students every step of the way. This is the beginning of a new chapter for Damelin, and we are excited to grow with our students, staff, and partners," he said.
