London - “Photobomb” beat “vape”, “preload” and “al desko” to become the 2014 Word of the Year, Collins English Dictionary said on Thursday.
“Photobomb” - when someone hijacks a snap being taken by someone else - came into the language six years ago but is included in the dictionary only this year.
It crept in through Hollywood stars intruding on each other's photographs at red-carpet events.
To “vape” is to inhale on an electronic cigarette, while “preloading” is saving money by drinking at home before going out and buying more alcohol at a club or other commercial venue.
Another runner-up, “al desko”, means to dine in at one's work desk, usually for lunch. - Sapa-dpa
