The murder trial of former Yeoville ANC Youth League leader Patrick Wisani made headlines across South Africa.
Wisani was sentenced to 20 years imprionment by the South Gauteng High Court for the murder of his girlfriend, Nosipho Mandaleleni, who he sjamboked to death.
In the light of an increase in femicide in South Africa, Sonke Gender Justice has been advocating for a national strategic plan to address gender-based violence. The organisation hopes the Wisani case will highlight the dire need for intervention.
This Women's Month we remember not only the women who have achieved great things, but the ones who were never given a chnce to realise their full potential. Nosipho Mandaleleni was one of them.
This video produced by Sonke Gender Justice has previously unseen interviews with people involved in the Wisani case, as well as previously unpublicised footage of the crime scene.
