With the highly anticipated launch of his single Wahama, DJ and producer CocoSA embraces his musical calling, aiming to top the charts with his signature sound.
Mvume Kosi, better known as DJ CocoSA, shared that music has always been a vital part of his life, shaping his artistic expression from a young age. Influenced by South Africa’s rich musical culture, especially the sounds of Amapiano, Deep House, and Afro Tech, his journey into music has been driven by a deep desire to create sounds that truly resonate with his audience.
CocoSA shared that he was drawn to the energy and emotion music evokes, prompting him to experiment with different sounds over time.
“I developed a deep passion for production and DJing. I started experimenting with sounds, learning production techniques, and refining my craft until I was able to create my own signature sound. The desire to share my music with the world and make people feel something through my art is what pushed me to take this path seriously.”
CocoSA highlighted that the pinnacle of his career was seeing his music reach international audiences and receiving recognition for his unique sound.
“There have been many incredible moments, but one of the biggest highlights was seeing my music reach international audiences and being recognised for my unique sound. Playing at major festivals, collaborating with talented artists, and having fans connect with my music on a personal level have all been defining moments in my journey,” he said.
The Metro FM Award-winning DJ shared that finding a balance between his personal life and the fast-paced music industry is always a challenge. However, he stays grounded by surrounding himself with close friends and family who keep him motivated and remind him of why he started his journey.
“I also make time to recharge—whether it’s through traveling, listening to different genres of music, or just taking a step back to reflect. Music is a huge part of my life, but I’ve learned that maintaining a healthy balance is key to longevity in this industry,” he added.
Speaking about his latest single Wahamba, the artist explained that the song was inspired by real-life emotions and experiences. 'It’s a song about love, heartbreak, and the journey of letting go,' he shared, adding that he wanted to create something people could truly relate to: “I wanted to create something that people could relate to, whether they’re going through a breakup or simply reflecting on past relationships. The melody, lyrics, and overall vibe of the track are designed to evoke deep emotions while still being a song you can dance to.”
Wahamba' builds on the success of CocoSA’s internationally acclaimed debut single, I Never Thought, which earned him widespread recognition and propelled him to the forefront of the soulful house and amapiano scenes. His collaboration with Artwork Sounds on Music & Love further solidified his place in the global music community. With Wahamba, CocoSA continues to expand his sound and musical reach, delivering a track that is both soulful and infectious for his fans.
CocoSA revealed that he has several exciting projects lined up for the new year, including major performances, expanding his brand internationally, and exploring new creative ventures.
“This year, I’m focused on expanding my reach and growing my brand internationally. I have exciting collaborations in the works, new music releases, and some major performances lined up. I also want to explore more creative projects that push the boundaries of my sound and connect with a wider audience,” he said.
He also encouraged emerging artists to stay true to their sound and continue learning.
“The music industry is constantly evolving, and it’s important to be adaptable while staying authentic. Hard work, consistency, and networking are key, but most importantly, believe in yourself. There will be challenges along the way, but if you’re passionate and persistent, you’ll carve out your own space in the industry,” CocoSA concluded.
‘Wahamba’ will be released for streaming and download across all major platforms on March 7.
