CAPE TOWN – When greatness meets greatness, it can only mean one thing – a new South African record!
And that’s what happened on Sunday, when Caster Semenya competed at the IAAF World Challenge event in Berlin.
As she charged around the Olympic Stadium track in the 1 000m, Semenya set a new SA mark of 2:30.70.
And guess who was at trackside watching her every move? Basketball legend LeBron James!
The NBA star flew into Germany as part of his ‘More Than An Athlete Tour’, having already been to Paris, where he met up with footballers Neymar and Kylian Mbappe.
This time he came to see Olympic and world 800m champion Semenya in action, and the two superstars posed for pictures afterwards.

James’ associate Ernie Ramos posted images and videos on Instagram, where he showed the 33-year-old LA Lakers forward also visiting the Berlin Wall, where he stood next to a mural of Nelson Mandela.
