POTCHEFSTROOM – The scene is set for the fastest 100m final in the history of the South African Track and Field Championships.
The country’s five sub-10 second men made it into the final with national record-holder Akani Simbine going into the race as the overwhelming favourite.
Simbine posted his fourth sub-10 second time of the year winning his semi-final in a time of 9.94 seconds.
Thando Roto finished behind him in a time of 10.12secs.
Defending champion Henricho Bruintjies won loaded semi-final in a season’s best time of 10.19 seconds with Emile Erasmus finishing second in 10.22 seconds.
World 400m record-holder Wayde van Niekerk produced the goods in his semi, crossing the line in a time of 10.05 seconds.
Six-time South African champion Simon Magakwe came second in 10.38 seconds.
Anaso Jobodwana made it into the final as one of the fastest losers with his time of 10.24 seconds, with Lebakeng Sesele earning the final spot with a time of 10.38 seconds.
