JOHANNESBURG – A brazen Robbie Frylinck slugged the Dolphins to a terrific, five-wicket victory over the Titans in the opening match of the Momentum One-Day Cup on Friday night.
The all-rounder walked in with his side needing 66 from 35 balls. He reacted by standing still and drilling six fours and three sixes all around a startled Centurion, in an astonishing cameo. It was the fastest 50 in the competition's history, coming off just 19 balls.
The Titans had earlier amassed 324 for seven, with an opening stand of 153 between Henry Davids (87) and former Dolphins player Jonathan Vandiar, who struck 51.
The pair fell together, however, and the Titans needed Rivaldo Moonsamy to produce a gem of a knock at death, with a sprightly 68 off 46 balls.
Amidst the carnage, Calvin Savage took four for 60 from his ten overs.
The visitors did leak 17 wides, however, which made their task with the bat that much harder.
Openers Sarel Erwee (70) and Morné van Wyk (61) laid the initial platform, while Cody Chetty (50) kept things going.
But the fireworks were still to come.
Keshav Maharaj blitzed 38 off just 22 balls, before Frylinck turned the match on its head wit his personal power play.
