Powerful Cape Cobras opener Richard Levi will be rejoining Northamptonshire in England for a further two years.
The county announced on their website on Wednesday that the 27-year-old Levi, who first played for Northants in 2013, will be available to feature in all formats despite being renowned for his big-hitting in T20 cricket.
Levi is fourth on the top run-scorers’ list in the ongoing RamSlam T20 Challenge in South Africa, with a total of 226 runs in seven innings.
The former Wynberg Boys’ High prodigy was one of the leading figures in the English T20 tournament last season as well, ending fifth on the overall list with 485 runs in 16 innings.
If Levi can continue his good form for the Cobras, he could come into contention for the Proteas at the ICC World T20 tournament in India in March next year.
“It’s great that Richard will be joining our squad once again. He brings a level of excitement to the one-day game and is a consistent run-scorer,” Northants coach David Ripley said on the team’s website.
“Last season we saw a glimpse of that same talent in red-ball cricket (Levi scored 168 in a county game against Essex), so we have high hopes for this coming year.”
Levi said: “I’m really excited to be part of next year’s squad. It’s going to be a really exciting season and I’m looking forward to continuing my relationship and success with the Steelbacks.”
