Former Proteas speedster Mfuneko Ngam went to Eden College, who’s KFC Mini-Cricket kids team won the right take on the Dolphins in Ram Slam a curtain raiser.
Ngam went to assist the team’s coach, Junior Vezi ahead of the Dolphins curtain raiser.
Eden College will also take on the Proteas on the 14th January in a curtain raiser to the KFC T20 international between South Africa and the West Indies.
Tracey Johnson, mother of one of the kids, won the competition and nominated Eden College to participate in the event.
Johnson said:”I could hardly believe it when I was call and told that I had won the competition. At first I thought that it was a prank then I remembered that I had taken part in a KFC Mini-Cricket competition.This is a fantastic opportunity that KFC has given us to keep our son and the rest of the school active.”
Vezi , coach at Eden College said:: “It is awesome that Kids can get active with their Protea and provincial heroes. The kids feel like professionals because they have all got the same kit and they are playing as a team. We are ready for the Sunfoil Dolphins, the team is practicing five days a week and Mfuneko helped them sharpen their skills. Our aim in this initiative is to beat the Proteas.”
Ngam said: “ I was surprised to see how good the kids were. Their coach, Junior, told me that the kids had putting in the hard yards improve their game and he has seen a huge improvement in their game. To beat the Sunfoil Dolphins is not an easy task to the kids had better train hard this week but more importantly they must come into the game on Sunday to have fun and get active. KFC are involved in KFC Mini-Cricket to get active so that is what I hope that the tournament will inspire the kids to continue to get active even after the season ends.”
