Durban - Cape Cobras all-rounder Wayne Parnell was named the Sunfoil Series Sizzler for the final five rounds of the Sunfoil Series.
Parnell was awarded R15 000 in prize money.
Parnell only managed to play the last five matches of the tournament due to injuries.
In the five matches he took 23 wickets at an average of 20.56 which included one 10-wicket haul and three 5-wicket hauls. Parnell scored 337 runs at an average of 48.14 and an unbeaten 111 runs when the Cape Cobras faced the Chevrolet Warriors in Paarl. He also scored a half century against the Bizhub Highveld Lions and The Unlimited Titans.
During the period under review, between mid-December to late January, Dane Piedt (Cape Cobras), Marchant de Lange (Titans), Heino Kuhn (Titans), Craig Alexander (Sunfoil Dolphins) and Dean Elgar (Titans) were also in contention for the award.
“Congratulations to Wayne on his Sunfoil Sizzler award,” commented Cricket South Africa (CSA) General Manager: Cricket, Corrie van Zyl. “He has been consistently outstanding with both bat and ball in the last five matches and this is just the form we want to see from our Proteas when they participate in our domestic cricket.”
Parnell is the leading all-rounder in domestic cricket, ahead of Werner Coetzee of the Knights and Dwaine Pretorius of the Lions.
“The shortage of quality all-rounders in our cricket has been a talking point since the retirement of Jacques Kallis and Wayne’s form has been significantly encouraging in this regard.”
The Sunfoil Sizzler of the Month is measured by the South African Cricketers’ Association Most Valuable Player index (SACA MVP).
The Sunfoil Series Player of the Season will be named at the CSA Awards ceremony in mid-year.
