London – French rider Sylvain Georges has failed a dope test at the Giro d'Italia, the International Cycling Union (UCI) said on Wednesday.
Georges, who rides for AG2R, was positive for the stimulant Heptaminol following a test carried out on May 10. He did not start Wednesday's stage 11 of the Giro.
“Mr Georges has the right to request and attend the analysis of his B sample,” the UCI said in a statement.
The 29-year-old has not been given a provisional suspension because under UCI anti-doping rules Heptaminol is a specified substance which can be used in certain circumstances.
The drug widens blood vessels and can be used in the treatment of low blood pressure. – Reuters
