Cape Town - To try to show his support and raise awareness for a cause that feeds young children, Expresso presenter Katlego Maboe will be cycling in his third Cape Town Cycle Tour in hopes of raising money for the Full Tummy Fund.

An initiative of the Spur Foundation, the Full Tummy Fund, enables early childhood development and nutritional programmes among children from disadvantaged

communities.

All funds accumulated by the racing team will go towards the Full Tummy Fund’s various beneficiaries, which assist children up to the age of six.

Chief financial officer at Spur Corporation and chairperson of the Spur Foundation Trust, Ronel van Dijk, said: “We are delighted that Katlego has put his star power behind the Full Tummy Fund to assist us in empowering children with access to quality education and proper nutrition.”

Maboe said he was excited to support such a great cause that does extraordinary work to feed children.

“Most South Africans can identify with the feeling of hunger, so I want to do my bit to help the cause by raising as much money as I can.”

He added that he will reach out to all his followers to get behind him by donating to the cause.

“I hope to raise millions,” he joked.

“No honestly, with the support of my followers I hope to raise a couple of thousands.”

Maboe, who last raced in 2015, said the Cycle Tour was an enormous and fun challenge.

“Apart from the strenuous cycling, one gets to experience the great beauty of Cape Town and is exposed to the wonderful sites along the way.”

As part of his training regime, Maboe started spinning classes and will start cycling in March.

“I am reasonably fit because I gym and regularly play football, but once I get my bike, I will dedicate one hour a day to cycling and hopefully that will be enough.”

On the day of the race, Maboe hopes for great weather and is expecting Cape Town to come out in numbers to support everyone that is taking part.
