London – A British newspaper is suing Lance Armstrong for more than $1.5 million over the now-disgraced cyclist's successful libel action over doping allegations.
The Sunday Times paid Armstrong £300,000 pounds (now about $485,000) to settle a case after it printed allegations in 2004 that he took performance-enhancing drugs.
But this year, the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency found that Armstrong led a massive doping programme on his teams. Armstrong was stripped of his seven Tour de France titles and banned from cycling for life.
The Sunday Times said in their latest edition that they had issued legal papers against Armstrong “demanding a return of the settlement payment plus interest, as well as costs in defending the case.”
The paper say the claim “is likely to exceed” £1 million ($1.6 million). – Sapa-AP
