Fresh off the news that Marcus Rashford may want to leave Manchester United, coach Ruben Amorim says he wants the player to remain at the Red Devils.

Rashford, a former prodigy, has spent eight years at the Red Devils, scoring 138 goals in 426 games.

On Tuesday it emerged that the 27-year-old Rashford could be ready to leave the club, after some cryptic comments he made in the media.

Rashford was left out of the United team for the Manchester derby in the Premier League over the weekend, and he admitted to being disappointed he was not included and that he was “ready for a new challenge and the next steps,” in an interview with British journalist Henry Winter on social media.

sked whether he had spoken to Rashford about the issue, Amorim said: "No (I've not spoken to him)," Amorim said. "Not yet. It was yesterday (when) I gave the day off to the lads, so he's our player and he's ready for the next game."

Amorim went on to say the club needed players like Rashford.

"Of course, because this kind of club needs big talents and he's a big talent.

"So, he just needs to perform at the highest level and that is my focus. I just want to help Marcus.”

The former Sporting Lisbon coach Amorim went on to speculate that the new challenge Rashford spoke of didn’t mean he was going anywhere.

"We have here a new challenge, it's a tough one," said Amorim.

"For me, it's the biggest challenge in football because we are in a difficult situation and I already said that this is one of the biggest clubs in the world.

"So, this is a really new challenge and the biggest one. I hope all my players are ready for this new challenge."
