Mauricio Pochettino has warned Tottenham fans to remember their responsibilities as his team prepare for Arsenal less than three weeks after a banana skin was thrown at Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang during the north London derby.
Spurs have 5,000 tickets for the Carabao Cup quarter-final at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday and will be keen to avenge a 4-2 defeat in the Premier League earlier this month.
Aubameyang opened the scoring on that occasion and was celebrating his goal when the banana skin was thrown in his direction by a Tottenham supporter who has since been identified by the club and banned for life.
‘I am completely against this behaviour,’ said Pochettino. ‘It’s the worst thing in the world. I don’t care if it is our fans or other fans, I want to kill it. Our responsibility is to behave.’
On the field, Spurs are depleted by injuries, with Eric Dier ruled out until the new year with appendicitis. Pochettino will make changes but his team will be fired up as they attempt to win a major trophy for the first time in more than a decade.
Goalkeeper Hugo Lloris said: ‘Maybe it’s a good thing that we lost the Premier League game a few weeks ago because it is more motivation for us. Every game that you lose it hurts, especially when you are in the lead. Of course there are priorities in a season but if you go through there is a semi-final final and a good chance.’
