On Saturday, August 31, Chidimma Adetshina was crowned Miss Universe Nigeria at an event in the Eko Hotel Convention Centre in Victoria Island.

The former Miss South Africa contestant travelled to Nigeria after the Miss Universe Nigeria organisers invited her to participate in the competition.

Although there was a lot of controversy around her win with many people saying it was a pity win, Adetshina was unbothered and happy to have secured the crown.

Speaking of which, X detectives took it upon themselves to investigate the crown, revealing it resembled a cheap tiara from Temu.

The investigation came after the crown fell during the crowning ceremony, which raised suspicions that it could be of poor quality because if it were a heavy crown, it wouldn’t have fallen as it did.

Adetshina's crown looked like the one from Temu, which cost R76 (6,757.21Nairas).

X user, @thulidlamini47, said: “They gave the Temu crown to a ‘Jane Doe’, a person with no identity, questionable date of birth and no country of origin. She doesn’t even have a home language, Nigeria is a comedy scene.”

Most Nigerians didn’t welcome Adetshina’s win, saying she didn’t deserve it and that the other contestants were robbed because the organisers wanted to prove a point to South Africa.

“It’s such a shame that Nigeria gave the title to Chidimma. Chidimma doesn’t know whether she’s a Nigerian or South African. Can you tell me, which dialect is Chidimma speaking? Can she speak Igbo?

“You people carry your Miss Universe and gave it to Chidimma just because South Africa was contesting with you or what? You people should give who is befitting.

“Where did Chidimma do auditions to represent Taraba? I’m not saying that Chidimma is not supposed to win, but there is something that is not straight. Chidimma just flew from South Africa, represented the Taraba state and now she is winning, I don’t understand.

“The pageant is just showing that there was a lot of fraudulent activities going on. There were other deserving contestants but they just selected her because she has all the fame,” said @Thehalines.

Another Instagram user, @marveyr, said: “Some girls actually went through the due process, auditioned and you people gave the crown to someone who didn't even choose to represent you in the first place.

“Is that a way of telling the other girls that they're not good enough? Even when you announced top 5, you guys only played Chidimma's video.

“How does that make sense. What message are you trying to pass across to young and aspiring girls. Is the crown meant for pity?”

Nigeria’s lady Lucia Agbaka said: “She's undeserving. She has never lived in Nigeria and was merely invited to compete after the final delegates had been chosen. Her family is also currently being invested for identity fraud in South Africa.

“She arrived in Nigeria for the first time after 20 years last week only to be given our crown. This organisation reeks of sheer bias.”

Adetshina is expected to represent Nigeria at Miss Universe in Mexico later this year.
