Samsung’s beloved Galaxy A-Series just got a major upgrade — and a dose of artificial intelligence.

The tech giant officially launched its new Galaxy A26 5G, A36 5G, and A56 5G smartphones in Johannesburg this week, introducing the theme “Awesome Intelligence” to celebrate the arrival of AI into one of South Africa’s most-loved mobile ranges.

Celebrating a decade of A-Series in South Africa, Samsung is making advanced features more accessible than ever, with powerful AI tools, boosted performance, and a focus on everyday convenience.

“We’ve brought AI to the devices that South Africans love and trust the most,” said Zahir Cajee, MX Lead: Product & Commercial for Samsung South Africa.

“From smart search to context-based actions and powerful image editing, Awesome Intelligence is designed to simplify and enhance the everyday experience.”

Smart, Context-Aware Intelligence in Your Pocket

The new A-Series is stacked with AI features that make the smartphone experience more intuitive:

Circle to Search: Just draw a circle around any object, image or text on your screen to instantly search it on Google.

The phone can operate under water for 30 minutes

AI Music Detection: Recognises music playing around you or even within your apps.

Action Chip: Suggests next steps — like calling, emailing, or opening maps — based on what’s displayed.

AI Select: Prompts actions after taking a photo, from editing to sharing or extracting information.

“Gone are the days of downloading third-party apps for basic edits or using multiple steps to complete simple tasks,” Cajee added.

“The device understands what you need, when you need it.”

Awesome Camera, Even Better Shots

The camera experience has also had an AI-driven glow-up. With enhanced HDR, neon detection, and smarter sensor scenarios, photos are richer and more detailed, even in tricky lighting.

The A56’s camera snaps clear images in just 240 milliseconds. Features like Best Face, instant slow motion, and auto trim make capturing and editing content easier — and faster — than ever.

Built for SA Conditions

Samsung says the new A-series is made for real-world use in South Africa. Each model features:

-5000mAh battery with 45W fast charging (up to 70% in 30 minutes)

-Over two days’ battery life, making them perfect for loadshedding

-IP67 water and dust resistance

-Brighter displays, with a 20% boost in outdoor visibility

-Six years of OS and security updates

-Knox Vault for military-grade data protection and theft prevention

Safety Beyond the Screen: Introducing Samsung SOS+

A standout addition is Samsung SOS+, a new personal safety platform powered by Aura, offering one-tap access to emergency services.

“We’re not a medical response company,” said Justin Hume, Vice President: Mobile for Samsung South Africa.

“But we do believe in bridging the gap and helping our customers when they’re most vulnerable. Safety is a human right.”

The SOS+ system links users to over 3,000 armed response vehicles and 700 ambulances. It’s not just an app — it’s a full ecosystem that functions even without mobile data, sending real-time SMS alerts and tracking the arrival of help, much like an Uber ride.

“If Samsung can be in the lives of our people, then we have a responsibility to protect them too,” Hume added.

“We want to build a South Africa where everyone is safe — not just those who can afford to be.”

A for AI, Affordability, and Accessibility

“The A-Series has become a staple in many South African homes,” said Kgomotso Mannya, Head of MX Marketing at Samsung SA.

“It represents innovation that’s accessible — and now, with Awesome Intelligence, we’re raising the bar again.”

From school learners to small business owners, the Galaxy A26, A36, and A56 are packed with features that meet the needs of the everyday user — offering a taste of AI, without the premium price tag.

Samsung’s new A-Series is now available at retailers across South Africa.
