In this review, the vivo V50 immediately stands out with its ultra-slim, refined aesthetics, feeling a step above its mid-range competitors.

Design & Build:

The vivo V50 is very slim at just 7.39mm thin, especially considering the 6,000mAh battery it is housing. Despite its slimness, the phone feels robust and durable, vivo has achieved an excellent balance of aesthetics and durability.

Durability:

This phone isn’t just made to turn heads – it’s built to handle whatever life throws at you. With IP68 and IP69 Water and Dust Resistance, it’s ready for heavy rain, splashes, and even high-pressure water sprays. Inside, the Comprehensive Cushioning Structure, double-strengthened Gorilla Glass, and Diamond Anti-Drop Film work together to make the V50 as tough as it is gorgeous.

Display:

The 6.77-inch AMOLED display is a standout feature, with a 120Hz refresh rate delivering crisp details and smooth scrolling. One thing that really stood out to me on this device was still being able to use it while standing in direct sunlight, I later learnt that this is due to the 4,500-nit peak brightness that ensures an immersive experience when watching videos. I also found that its Ultra Slim Infinity Curved Screen blends seamlessly with the overall UI of the phone, making swiping gestures feel incredibly fluid. The in-display fingerprint scanner is also both fast and accurate.

The back of the vivo V50 highlights its refined design, featuring a premium camera module with ZEISS optics for pro-level photography

Camera:

Now, onto the main course, the camera! I was simply blown away with the camera on this device. As a photography nerd myself, I could not help but appreciate the 50MP ZEISS dual-camera system. This camera produces sharp, vibrant, and well-detailed shots in daylight, with natural colors and excellent dynamic range. The ultra-wide lens (119-degree field of view) helps create stunning landscape shots.

Low-light photography is also really good thanks to Optical Image Stabilization (OIS), resulting in night shots that are less noisy and more detailed than expected. vivo’s partnership with ZEISS also brings professional-style portrait options, allowing for unique bokeh effects like Biotar and Distagon which literally make your portraits look like a professional photo shoot.

The 50MP selfie camera captures sharp, well-exposed selfies, and AI 3D Studio Lighting 2.0 adds a professional touch to portraits. Both front and rear cameras support 4K video recording, making this a good choice for shooting your next viral TikTok.

One particular mode I loved on this camera was the Film Camera Mode. It switches your camera to an old school film camera and changes the look of your pictures to that old-timey feel. It seems like something so little, but brings a ton of fun to an otherwise normal picture.

Performance:

The Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 processor and 12GB RAM ensure smooth day-to-day performance, with fast app switching and no noticeable lag.

Gaming performance is great too. When testing Call of Duty: Mobile which is notorious for putting a device through its paces, the device runs well at high settings, the phone does get slightly warm after 30 minutes of gameplay. Casual users should find the performance more than adequate.

Software:

The FunTouch OS 15 (based on Android 15) is clean and packed with useful AI-driven features, such as Live Call Translation, AI Transcript Assist, and AI Eraser 2.0. vivo also promises three major OS updates and four years of security patches.

Battery Life:

The 6,000mAh battery easily lasts a day and a half with typical usage. The 90W fast charging is a standout feature, allowing for a 20% to 100% charge in just 40 minutes.

Comprehensive Protection and Warranty with the vivo V50:

It’s also reassuring that the vivo V50 comes with accidental cover within 180 days of activation, including water damage, a 3-year warranty, free postal service for repairs, a free TPU case and screen protector, and free labor costs for all repairs.

Final Verdict:

The combination of premium design, a vibrant display, a solid camera setup, and long battery life makes it a great choice for most users. The vivo V50 is a strong contender for those seeking a stylish, feature-packed phone that balances performance and battery life while offering pro-level cameras.
