Johannesburg – The bus rapid transit system Rea Vaya resumed services on Tuesday after they were temporarily suspended until further notice last week.
The City of Johannesburg announced on Monday afternoon that Rea Vaya bus services would be resumed from Tuesday, December 20.
“The interruption of the service is due to an arising labour issue experienced at one of the bus operating companies. This has led to work stoppage, and an obstruction of all services,” the city said in a statement on Friday morning.
The city said buses would run as per normal schedule from 5am to 9pm on weekdays and 6am to 7pm on weekends.
“Commuters are reminded that the festive season schedule is now implemented on a 15-minute bus frequency during peak and a 30-minute frequency off-peak with normal operations resuming on January 3, 2023. There will be no bus services on Christmas Day, Sunday, December 25,” the city said.
Joburg’s transport department said it would strive to render regular uninterrupted bus services to get commuters to their destinations safely.
“We appreciate your patience as our key customers and sincerely apologise for the inconvenience,” said Dorothy Mabuza, executive director for transport.
