After the tragic discovery of Coleen Thaver's body in Umkomaas, her boyfriend has been arrested for her murder.

Thaver, 32, a mother of one, was last seen on March 22 at a petrol station in Roseneath. Her decomposing body was subsequently found in dense bushes.

On April 4, her sister positively identified her by her tattoos, and on Tuesday Thaver's boyfriend was arrested by detectives from the Umkomaas police station.

Dawn Gounden, of Renegades Search and Rescue and a spokesperson for Thaver’s family, said a missing person's report was opened at the Umkomaas SAPS.

“Her devastated family was left traumatised when her remains were discovered. The diligent efforts of the Umkomaas SAPS detectives, led by Detective Ramlal and Detective Arumugam, were instrumental in leading to an arrest. Police collaborated with community members, who came forward with crucial information regarding Coleen’s last known whereabouts.

"The Thaver family expresses their gratitude to everyone involved in the search for Coleen, especially the detectives. Their relentless efforts have provided the family with a sense of relief and closure,” she said.

The bail application is expected to take place next week at the Scottburgh Magistrate's Court.

Gounden said the family would hold a placard demonstration outside court against gender-based violence.
