Faizal Shaikh, 66, from Sydenham, who went missing on Saturday, was found after he succumbed to a heart attack during a bike ride through the Durban CBD.
Shamim Shaikh, his wife, told the POST it was sad to know that he was still robbed for his belongings after a heart attack.
His daughter, Naseera Shaikh, said her dad did not inform he was leaving home.
“I tried calling my dad but I could not get through to him. I called my sister and she did not know his whereabouts and neither did my brother.
“My son then told me that he saw ‘nana' (grandfather) take the bike out earlier and went cycling. When we had not heard from him toward the afternoon, my brother and the rest of the family started to look for him. We then decided to put out a missing person's message on social media,” said Naseera.
She said her brother Zaheer received a call on Sunday morning that he should go to the Umbilo police station. Officers there then advised him to go to the Phoenix Mortuary to identify a body.
"Zaheer confirmed the body was that of our father and he broke the news to the rest of the family. Police told us that our father's body was discovered in the CBD."
Shamim said the post-mortem results confirmed that her husband had a heart attack.
“They also mentioned that he did not suffer any bruises or injuries but all of his belongings, including his bike, wallet and cellphone were stolen,” added Shamim.
