A level 5 disruptive rain weather warning was issued by the KZN Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (KZN Cogta) this morning - that will result in flooding of roads and settlements and service disruptions (water, electricity, traffic).
The weather warning was issued until around noon today. On its Facebook page, KZNCogta said the affected areas included eThekwini, Msunduzi, Umdoni, KwaDukuza and Mandeni.
In another statement, the South African Weather Service said: "A surface high pressure system ridges over the eastern parts of KZN, supported by an upper air trough over southern RSA that extends a low pressure along the east coast resulting in widespread showers and rain but scattered in the north-east today.
"If possible stay indoors and off the roads and avoid crossing rivers and swollen streams where water is above your ankles. If trapped in a vehicle during a flood, abandon it and climb to higher ground. In buildings, move valuables to a safe place above the expected flood level. In rural areas protect/relocate animals to a safe place on higher ground. Take caution when traveling or avoid traveling as roads may be flooded, with potholes being filled with water."
Alerts have been issued on various social media groups of water puddles and accidents.
According to the Reservoir Hills Community Policing Sector there are water puddles on the M7 east going down towards the N2.
"Accident under same N2 bridge, services on scene. N2 North up to Umhlanga lots of water puddles as well."
The page also cautioned drivers to be careful, while going up Fields Hill before Pioneer off-ramp as there are many rocks in the road.
