The Bazme Khalid Shah Christy Sabree International Trust in conjunction with Muslim Relief South Africa, held a mass Eid day feeding today in Woodhurst Drive in Chatsworth.
Ahmed Cassim, the chairperson of the trust, said a lot of residents in Chatsworth, whether they were from formal or informal areas, could not afford a meal due to the rising costs of living.
"We do a lot of social and community work, so we can see first-hand the needs of the people in Chatsworth. The feeding initiative is not about feeding Muslims on Eid day. It is about feeding anyone who needs a hot meal, regardless of their race, colour or creed. We thought, if we are celebrating, why can't others join us."
Cassim said they did not fund-raise for their feeding schemes. Monies were donated by members of the trust.
He said the trust was opened in 1976 by Saint Hazrath Syed Khalid Shah (RA) and the mass Eid day feeding started in 2017.
